Dr. Apurva Makwana and Dr. Saloni Makwana, both from medical backgrounds, turned
their passion for art into PaintWaint, a startup that makes painting easy and enjoyable for
everyone. Since its launch in September 2023, PaintWaint offers paint-by-number kits that
let people create their own art—even without any prior experience. Today, the brand is
pulling in about ₹15 lakh monthly revenue. Here’s how they made it happen.
How the Passion for Art Never Died
Even while working in medicine, Apurva always found solace in painting. He would wake up
early to work on hyper-realistic portraits, using painting as a kind of meditative break from his
clinical work. Saloni, also a doctor, saw the joy Apurva got from painting and believed others
might want the same escape. Together, they decided to blend art and business.
How PaintWaint Was Born
On 26 September 2023, Apurva and Saloni officially launched PaintWaint. Their idea was
simple: make art accessible. They designed DIY kits that include everything someone
needs—painted canvases, brushes, color sets, and easy instruction guides. Whether you
want to paint a favorite photo or enjoy a relaxing hobby, PaintWaint makes it possible.
How Early Challenges Were Overcome
The startup didn’t take off immediately. After spending around ₹4-5 lakh to build a polished
website, the founders received only six orders in the first month. That could have
discouraged most people—but Apurva and Saloni didn’t stop there. They began focusing on
social media: creating reels, storytelling, showing behind-the-scenes, and making art look
inviting. By a few months later, they were hitting 100 orders a month—and their exposure
continued to rise.
How Going Viral Changed the Game
A turning point came when one of PaintWaint’s videos received 3 million views. That splash
of visibility helped the brand reach many new customers who had never heard of them
before. Orders started increasing steadily, and by early 2025 PaintWaint was processing
around 700-800 orders per month. This growth pushed their monthly revenue to ₹15 lakh.
How Product Design and Pricing Wins Hearts
What makes PaintWaint popular isn’t just marketing—it’s how well the product matches
people’s needs. Each paint kit is thoughtfully designed so anyone can use it. From the
canvases printed with numbers, to the included guides and brushes, everything is made
easy to follow. Kits are priced at different points—from affordable options that make it easy to
try, to more premium ones for larger or personalized designs. This careful pricing helped
them reach both casual hobbyists and serious art lovers.
How the Team and Operations Grew
To keep up with demand, PaintWaint built a small but solid team. There are about 25 people
now managing everything from manufacturing and packing to customer service and content
creation. The founders ensured that quality was never compromised—every product is
checked before it goes out, and feedback is used to improve both design and delivery
experience.
How Creativity Became Community
PaintWaint did more than sell kits—they built a community. People shared their painted
canvases, tutorials, and art-ful stories on Instagram. The brand encouraged users to post
their own work, turning customers into ambassadors. This community atmosphere helped
PaintWaint grow organically, creating trust and loyalty.
How Dreams Are Scaling
With current success, PaintWaint has its eyes set even higher. Their roadmap includes:
● Expanding their product range with new DIY formats and ready-made art
● Entering international markets
● Building more elaborate tutorial videos and content
● Aiming for revenue targets of ₹2 crore in 2025-26, and much more in coming years.
