Rajat Gupta, a Delhi entrepreneur, saw a problem that hit home: even today, many people
wait for hours to get essential medicines. Having worked abroad, and with a salary of about
₹1.5 crore, he decided comfort wasn’t enough—he wanted to build something meaningful.
Thus, in early 2025, he launched Repill, a startup that promises medicine delivery in under
60 minutes, using local pharmacies and AI-driven tech.
How Repill Was Inspired by Healthcare Traps
When Rajat lived in the U.S., he observed a smooth system: digital prescriptions, nearby
pharmacies ready to fulfill orders, and fast delivery. Back in India, he found a stark
contrast—handwritten prescriptions, missing medicines, long queues. These gaps frustrated
him. He believed that urgent medicine delivery should match the speed of food delivery
systems. That belief laid the foundation of Repill.
How Rajat Left It All and Took the Leap
Leaving behind a high-paying job in Silicon Valley wasn’t easy. But Rajat wanted more than
a paycheck—he wanted impact. In 2023, he returned to India, assembled a lean team of
engineers, developers, and healthcare professionals, and began building a platform that
connects users, pharmacies, and delivery partners. For nearly a year, he worked on
designing the system, solving logistical challenges and regulatory issues, until Repill was
ready to launch in January 2025.
How Repill Uses Technology to Decode Prescriptions
One major challenge in medicine delivery is that many prescriptions are handwritten and
difficult to read. Repill built AI-enabled tools to interpret messy handwriting. Users simply
upload a photo or digital copy of their prescription. The system reads it, matches medicines
in the inventory of nearby partner pharmacies, and moves forward with the order. This step
cuts down errors and speeds up the buying process.
How Local Pharmacies Power the Delivery Model
Instead of owning a warehouse or a large store, Repill works with existing neighborhood
pharmacies. When someone places an order, the platform checks for available stock in
nearby pharmacies—usually within 7 to 9 km. Once stock is verified, a courier picks up the
order and delivers it to the user in under 60 minutes. This model keeps costs low, supports
small businesses, and enables faster delivery.
How Repill Started Small but Grew Quickly
Since its launch, Repill has made over 400 orders in its first few months. In Delhi, many
orders are delivered in 30-40 minutes, not just 60. Even though it’s early days, the traction
has been promising. Users are increasingly choosing Repill for both prescription and
over-the-counter needs because of its reliability and speed.
How Challenges Were Handled Along the Way
Building a healthcare delivery platform wasn’t without obstacles. Some of the hurdles Repill
faced include:
● Prescription legibility: solving this with AI and manual checks.
● Medicine shortages: partnering with many pharmacies helped ease supply issues.
● Customer awareness: educating users about the benefits of using a fast
dependable app.
By focusing on local pharmacies, assuring authentic medicines, and being transparent,
Repill built trust with users and pharmacies alike.
How Expansion Plans Are Shaping Up
Repill is growing beyond just Delhi. Plans are underway to extend to Noida, Gurgaon,
Bangalore, and Mumbai. The aim is also to reach Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where access to
medicines is harder. They are scaling their pharmacy network and delivery operations. The
challenge will be maintaining speed and trust while growing.
How Repill Is Reimagining Medicine Access in India
Repill doesn’t just deliver medicines—it aims to change how people receive healthcare
essentials. By marrying technology, local pharmacy infrastructure, and reliable logistics, it
offers a model that’s scalable, ethical, and focused on impact. In a country where urgent
medicine need can’t wait, Repill hopes to be the solution everyone relies on.
